Deputy Prosecutor Statement on the Death of Foday Sankoh

Desmond de Silva, QC, the Deputy Prosecutor for the Special Court for Sierra Leone, confirms the death last night of Foday Sankoh at Choithrams Hospital in Freetown where he was undergoing medical treatment. Mr de Silva said the following

"Foday Sankoh, the indicted war criminal who was awaiting trial, has passed away of natural causes in Choithrams Hospital where he was undergoing medical treatment. He has been granted the peaceful end that he denied to so many others. His death will not stop the prosecution from leading evidence through other trials of his involvement in the most evil of deeds that have left a legacy of horror in the minds and memories of those who survive him."
