Security Exercise at the Special Court Complex

On Tuesday, December 30th, a security exercise was held to test the ability of security forces to ensure the integrity of the Special Court for Sierra Leone New England complex and safety of Court staff.

The exercise was part of an ongoing series of exercises to improve the cooperation and response capabilities between the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the Republic of Sierra Leonean Armed Forces, the Sierra Leonean Police and UNAMSIL.

In the past, the exercises were conducted on weekends when the labour force was not on the Court site. However, this exercise was conducted on a working day, which caused a small level of concern amongst some of the construction workers on site.

The Special Court contained the concern immediately explaining to the staff that the exercise was a simulated event and part of ongoing security arrangements.
