Johnny Paul Koroma, former leader of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, was indicted on 7 March 2003 on 17 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Koroma fled Freetown in January 2003. His fate and whereabouts are unknown, and he is considered to be at large.
In May 2008 the Plenary of Judges amended the Rules of Procedure and Evidence to allow a case, where a person had been indicted by the Special Court, to be referred for trial to another jurisdiction.
