The Taylor Trial

The trial of Charles Taylor is continuing in The Hague. The Trial Chamber has heard testimony from over 30 Prosecution witnesses.

The RUF Trial

Witness testimony in the case of The Prosecutor vs. Issa Hassan Sesay, Morris Kallon and Augustine Gbao concluded on 24 June 2008. Final briefs are due on 29 July and oral arguments are scheduled for 4-5 August. A judgment by the Trial Chamber is expected later this year.

The AFRC Trial

The case of The Prosecutor vs. Alex Tamba Brima, Ibrahim Bazzy Kamara and Santigie Borbor Kanu, including the Appeal, has been concluded.

The CDF Trial

The case of The Prosecutor vs. Moinina Fofana and Allieu Kondewa, including the Appeal, has been concluded.

 

7 March 2003
Alex Tamba Brima (First Accused) indicted on 17 counts (later amended to 18 counts and on 18 February 2005 further amended to 14). 28 May 2003 Brima Bazzy Kamara (Second Accused) indicted on 17 counts (later amended to 18 counts and on 18 February 2005 further amended to 14).

16 September 2003
Santigie Borbor Kanu (Third Accused) indicted on 17 counts (later amended to 18 counts and on 18 February 2005 further amended to 14).

28 February 2004
The Trial Chamber orders joint trial of the three accused. Prosecutors issue a consolidated indictment on 5 March 2004. 7 March 2005 The trial opens in Freetown before Trial Chamber II.

21 November 2005
The Prosecution concludes its case after calling 59 witnesses.

31 March 2006
Decision on Motions for Judgment of Acquittal.

5 June 2006
The Defence opens its case.

27 October 2006
The Defence concludes its case after calling 87 witnesses.

7-8 December 2006
Final Arguments are heard from both Prosecution and Defence.

20 June 2007
Judgment in the trial of The Prosecutor vs. Brima, Kamara and Kanu. They were convicted on 11 of 14 counts in the indictment.

19 July 2007
Sentencing in the trial of The Prosecutor vs. Brima, Kanu and Kamara. The Trial Chamber imposed single "global" sentences of 50 years for Brima, 45 years for Kamara, and 50 years for Kanu.

22 February 2008
Appeals Judgment. The Appeals Chamber dismisses appeals and upholds the sentences handed down by the Trial Chamber.
